NZIX is now three months into its collaboration with Chorus, offering peering from any handover port on Chorus’ ultra-fast broadband network to the New Zealand Internet Exchange.

Chorus EdgeConnect enables Chorus customers to communicate with other NZIX members on the same exchange. This will enable connections between Chorus customers to other NZIX members physically connected to NZIX switches, or even to those NZIX members similarly connected via Chorus EdgeConnect.

To take advantage of peering via EdgeConnect you will need to have a current NZIX service, be a Chorus customer and have a Chorus NGA handover.

Chorus EdgeConnect is currently only available on the Auckland Internet Exchange (AKL- IX). We are working towards offering it on the existing CHC-IX and the future WLG-IX.

Interested in EdgeConnect? Place your order in the Member Portal. For more information visit the EdgeConnect page on the NZIX website.

Thank you to all our members who took the time to complete our survey on the proposal to establish a new IX in Wellington. We really appreciate your feedback and input into this project. We are in the early planning stages and after collating the results are now able to start negotiations. The plan is to launch WLG-IX mid-2021. More details will be available over the coming months.

The New Zealand Internet Exchange is pleased to announce Datavault will be added to its list of POPs in the Auckland exchange.

Having been approached by DataVault and following several requests from members for a POP at the 162 Grafton Road site, NZIX have been working on making this viable for members.

Again, COVID restrictions have slowed down the timing of the project, delaying the fibre paths towards Datavault however orders are now back on track and engineers are standing by for an install. All being well, the new datacentre could be operational as soon as April. For more information email peering@nz.ix

Plans are now underway to increase the bandwidth and diversity of the New Zealand Internet Exchange’s inter datacentre links in Auckland.

The new AKL-Ring will see a 200G diverse link between each datacentre, ensuring healthy available capacity and reducing unpredictable spikes, so things like NZ digital sports delivery won’t go beyond our utilization tolerances.

Unfortunately, the AKL-Ring project has suffered delays due to COVID restrictions however is now over 50% completed.

Engineers have sourced diverse fibres to our existing infrastructure through Vodafone and are underway in delivering these fibres to each Auckland datacentre.
